This is the second piece of recording my favorite trip to Europe when I was in Grade 8 which was July, 2005.
Since I was a child, I have heard of the reputations about Venice which was stated to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And it did really was in my perspectives, especially as I steeped on that land.
As you can see on the map of Venice, it is a city of northeast Italy on islets within a lagoon in the Gulf of Venice. From my understanding, it might be easily affected by the rising tides of the ocean, and sometimes the tide would recede as well, because the seawater flowed through almost the whole city. This port has canals instead of streets. Those meanderings of seawater were the origin of the city’s economic income by a variety of ways, for instance, tourism, transportations, and human supplies. In the photo of mine above, I was sitting on a boat hearing the punter singing his traditional songs.
Well, I asked our guide if these buildings were directly standing in the seawater. And the guide told me it was true and the bottoms of those houses were in water so that a lot of their first floors were unable to be efficient. I thought it was such a waste actually. Besides, it also restricted land space and the buildings might be eroded by seawater. Then that would be a potential danger to residence. Additionally, I had heard that there were often floods occurring and influencing the city, citizens. I believe more proposals and programs should be created to prevent damages.
Furthermore, if you take a look at the photo carefully, you could recognize that the buildings on each side of the canal were pretty ancient and delicate. Architecture is my favorite that I expect to carry my palette with me to travel around and draw all the architecture I loved on my paper. Thus I will own a great treasure of pieces.
